Busy Bee

Wow, I haven't blogged in over a week, and I'm so behind on reading blogs.  It's been an extremely busy week and it unfortunately will continue until my presentation in my Capstone class is over on Wednesday.  Just wanted to say I'm still alive and I will be back to blogging soon, but for now, school is taking over my life!  Have a great weekend!!!

Show Us Your Life--ALMA MATER

UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI  (aka MIZZOU)

I'm linking up with Kelly's Korner for Show Us Your Life--Alma Maters.  So, technically this isn't my alma mater yet because I won't graduate until May, but I can't pass up an opportunity to show off my wonderful university.  I come from a long line of University of Missouri fans!  Both my parents went to school here as well as most of my aunts and uncles and several cousins.  I grew up being a Tiger fan and knew this is where I'd always want to go.  Once I knew I wanted to major in accounting and the Mizzou Accountancy School was ranked #14 in the nation, it was confirmed the University of Missouri was the right place for me!  I have loved every minute of it!  I'm going to be so sad to leave in May, but I plan to be a Mizzou Tiger for life and will return often for football and basketball games, and hopefully be an active alumni to the Business and Accountancy Schools.

Here are some pictures to give you a little tour of Mizzou!  M-I-Z...Z-O-U!!!!

Cornell Hall--this is the business school where I practically live.  Love this building...it is beautiful!

Mizzou vs. Oklahoma Football Homecoming Game Fall 2010--best football game ever.  Incredible memories.  Love Mizzou Football!

Mizzou Arena where basketball games are played.  Love college basketball!

Memorial Union--this is our student union.  Love the architecture.

College Game Day 2010--College Game DAy came to Mizzou this past fall...one of the most fun weekends of my college career.

Mizzou Rec Center--Sports Illustrated ranked our Rec Center #1 a few years ago!  It's an incredible facility!  I love working out there.  We have an outdoor pool, indoor pool complete with a lazy river, and then top-natch gym facilities!

Student Center--this is one part of our student center where I often eat lunch on campus!

GO TIGERS!!!!!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

It's time to link up with Jamie again for "WILW"

I'm LOVING that it is 60 degrees outside today...in February!  I hope the rest of the winter will be like this!

I'm LOVING that I have gotten back into a consistent workout routine for the semester and am running at least three times a week!  Such a great stress reliever!

I'm LOVING Mumford and Sons.  I had heard of them prior to the Grammy's, but had never really listened to their music.  So good and folksy.

I'm LOVING Justin Bieber!  I think I officially have Bieber Fever!  His Grammy performance with Usher and Jaden Smith was fantastic.  And, how precious were Will and Jada Smith?!?  So proud of their son!  Almost made me cry!

Hope everyone has a fantastic Wednesday!!!

Another Blog Award!

I'm so excited to have received my second blog award!  Thank you so much, Gabriella for passing this award on to me!  You're so sweet and I love reading your blog!  :)

1. Who/What Inspires You?
My parents.  I love my parents so much.  I'm so thankful for all the hard work they put in, so I could have a good life.  They are such generous people.  I talk to them multiple times every day.  They give me the best advice and are always supportive.  I hope to one day be as good of a parent as they are!

2. What is your favorite season and why?
My favorite season is summer!  I love the heat!  You will never hear me complain that it's too hot outside.  But, fall is a close second!  The leaves changing colors, football, crisp air, apple cider make me love fall, too.  I do like having all four seasons here in the Midwest...there's something special about each of them.  But, I'd be okay with winter being a little shorter!  ;)

3. What are you most looking forward to this year?
This year is a big year in my life!  I'm looking forward to graduating in May, and then I can't wait to start my full-time job at a Big Four Accounting Firm.  I'm ready!

4. If you could write a book about anything, what would it be about?
I would write travel books like Fodor's or something because it would be so fun to travel around and explore different areas!  Plus, I'm not creative at all, so a factual book would be easiest for me to write...ha.

5. What is your greatest passion?
Helping people!  I think it's important to give back and you get back so much more in return.

6. If you could change one thing about your life or yourself, what would it be?
My eyebrows...I have thick eyebrows and have to consistently wax them or pluck them, and it would be really nice to have thinner eyebrows that are more manageable.

7. Lastly, what is your favorite novel?
I am a huge fan of the Confessions of a Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella.  There are six books in the series and I've read every single one of them.  The books are light, fun reads!  I highly recommend them!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

It's Wednesday again, which means I'm linking up with Jamie for What I'm Loving Wednesday!  You should join in, too!

I'm LOVING that I am back in my routine without any snow days this week.

I'm LOVING baby carrots marinated with Robusto Italian dressing.  It's my greatest new food discovery and I eat it everyday in my lunch.  So delicious!

I'm LOVING my new necklace from Hand Made and Lovely!

I'm LOVING that my friend surprised me with a giant Diet Dr. Pepper in our class this morning because she knew I was up late writing a paper.  The caffeine was much needed!  I love when people do thoughtful things like this for no reason!

I'm LOVING the Kate Spade bangle giveaway at a new blog I'm following!  Check it out: Texas Prep

Have a lovely Wednesday!

Seven Facts Blog Award

Thank you SO much to LoneStarPrep for the Seven Facts Blog Award!  I had a lot of fun with this!  The rules are you have to write seven facts about yourself, pass it on to other bloggers, and then link it back to who passed it on to you.
1. I cry pretty much every single time I laugh...not just watery eyes but tears streaming down my face.

2. I'm graduating college (this May!) with my Bachelors and Masters of Accounting in 4 years.  I came in with 37 college credit hours from high school and knew I wanted to major in accounting, so I went for it!

3. My favorite color is purple!  I have a purple BlackBerry that I lovingly call my "PurpleBerry".

4. I am terrified of roller coasters...for this reason, I love Disney World because I can ride all the rides.  Space Mountain is my type of roller coaster!!

5. I've never been in a real relationship.  It's a really hard thing to admit because I feel like it's so rare to never have had a boyfriend.  I have been on dates (few, but some...haha).  But, I'm trusting in God's plan for my life and I can't wait to meet my prince charming.  "When God Writes Your Love Story" by Eric and Leslie Ludy is an awesome book and really helped put things into perspective for me in this area of my life.

6. I love looking through celebrity gossip magazines and I visit people.com multiple times a day to keep up with the celebrity gossip.  When my family went to LA for vacation several years ago, I made them go to the premiere of Miss Congeniality 2, just so I could see some celebrities.  It was well worth it because we got to see Sandra Bullock and "talk" to her for a moment!  She's incredibly nice and genuine!

7. I'm a total perfectionist.  I take great pride in everything I do and want to make sure I do it well.

See Where I Blog

Today I'm participating in a "See Where I Blog" link up @Hand Made and Lovely.

My blog space is very functional and also serves as my homework space.  I have a card table over to the left as an extension of my desk, so I can spread out my textbooks, but there's no picture of that because it's a messy work space right now with all my CPA exam studying stuff.  :)

Giveaway Over at Preppy Lane

I just discovered the Preppy Lane blog today after some of you blogged about her Kate Spade giveaway.  The blog is super cute!  I'm in love with Kate Spade!  First, because she's from Kansas City, which is my hometown.  Second, because I distinctly remember visiting my aunt in Washington DC when I was little and her taking me shopping and teaching me all about "fancy" things, and one of the things I learned all about were Kate Spade purses.  Ever since then, I'm a lover of all things Kate Spade.  I love the Kate Spade Twirl perfume that I got last month...it's divine.  So, head on over to Preppy Lane and check out this awesome Kate Spade giveaway (http://preppylane.blogspot.com/2011/02/thankful-thursay-and-giveaway.html).

Snow Day #3

First, I want to take a moment and thank all the people who work during blizzards and any kind of weather to keep all of us safe...police, firemen, EMT's, snow plowers, hospital staff, newscasters, the national guard, and anyone else I'm forgetting.  We had some nasty weather here this week and I don't think these people get enough credit for working around the clock and staying close to work and braving the conditions outside in order to be there for the community.  So, THANK YOU!

The University of Missouri officially had to close Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week.  Three snow days in a row.  Now, I thought these snow days were great fun until I read this:  "Following this weather emergency closure of the university, plans will be made and announced in the near future regarding makeup classes, missed exams, and appropriate adjustments to the academic calendar."  Now, we've never had a snow day since I've been here and in the school's history they've never had three snow days in one year, so I don't think they've ever had to make adjustments to the calendar.  Does anyone else go to a college that's had multiple snow days?  What do you do to make them up?

I've been stuck in my house since Monday at noon!  I'm getting very antsy and ready to be back in my routine.  Yesterday I went out with my roommates to shovel our driveway.  It took us about 3 hours because there was so much snow...I'm thinking this would be one of those times that I really wish I had a boyfriend who I could ask to come shovel my driveway....ha.  An old man who drove by said "Chivalry must be dead if three young ladies are out here shoveling by themselves."  Haha!  It was fun meeting some of our neighbors because everyone was digging out.  Thank you to our wonderful neighbors who let us borrow shovels because the city ran out of shovels before we could get one!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Today I'm linking up with Jamie @this kind of love for:

I'm LOVING that I had only one class this week due to three snow days this week...never has my university closed for two, yet alone three snow days.  No class until Monday for me since I already don't have class on Friday!

I'm LOVING that the groundhog did not see his shadow...he better be right that spring is right around the corner because I am soooooo ready.

I'm LOVING that I finally got to see Country Strong last weekend.  It was not what I expected, but I really really liked it!  Did y'all know that Gweneth Paltrow is now best friends with Faith Hill after working on the movie with Tim McGraw??

I'm LOVING this song by the Zac Brown Band because I heard it for the first time the night before the 2011 Blizzard came and the title, "Colder Weather," was perfect for the moment, though it is a sad song.  Can't wait to see them in concert with Kenny Chesney in July!

I'm LOVING that Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice are both new again tomorrow night!  Does anyone else think this is the best season of Private Practice yet?  I'm really really liking it!

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

2011 BLIZZARD

History is being made in Missouri right now as we are in the midst of the great blizzard of 2011.  We are up to18 inches of snow depending on which report you look at, but it definitely looks like that much outside my window.  It's hard to tell because the snow is blowing everywhere and the drifts are 2-5 feet.  The snow started around 6 am this morning and is still going...we are under a Blizzard Warning until noon tomorrow.  Yesterday we had freezing rain all day, which was a mess, as well.

My university shut down, which is unheard of.  I posted two weeks ago how we had to go to school when it snowed 10 inches.  Well, I think the blizzard warning prompted them to call it off.  They closed campus at 4 pm yesterday and as of now it's closed through tomorrow.  We'll see about Thursday.  It's the first time in history we've had 2 snow days in a row...and it's only the 5th and 6th snow days ever!  They shut-down the major interstate the runs across the entire state today at 1 pm and it still has not re-opened.

I was in a blizzard in Colorado in October 1997 when I was there on vacation with my family...and it reminds me a lot of that.  The weather is absolutely insane.  I have a feeling we will not be seeing the grass anytime soon...

Here are some pictures from this afternoon as my roomies and I ventured out into the snow!  What good is a snow day if you don't go outside and play in it?  I'm guessing many of you will be getting snow or some form of precipitation since this storm is covering like a third of the US...stay safe and warm!!!
